Whitepool Northern Light tops trade at Castle Douglas selling for 5800gns
It was a day of celebration for us at Castle Douglas this month as we four cattle to the Society sale. The Society AGM was held at the event and we were presented with the Bolebec Trophy for the most successful herd at the National Shows, as well as the award for stockman of the year.
Of the four cattle we sold, we topped the trade with Whitepool Northern Light, our show bull from this year, he sold for 5800gns to Sir Martyn Arib for the Howemill herd. Whitepool Neptune then sold for 5000gns to a partnership of Speddoch Farms and Ian Marshall, while Whitepool McCoy then sold at 3800gns to Des Dunne’s Castlemartin Stud in Eire, while Whitepool Nightingale sold for 1500gns. It was a great day for us, exceeding all expectations and we’d like to wish all purchasers the best of luck with their new arrivals.

A summer of success!
After a successful start at the Bath and West, our next show was the Royal Highland, where Moondust continued her winning ways. She was first in the senior heifer class and then went on to stand reserve supreme champion. Her full bother Northern Light won the junior bull class and then went on to be placed reserve male champion.
However, at the Great Yorkshire Show two weeks later we had a clean sweep! Moondust won her class, was female and supreme champion and Northern Light won the bull class, was junior champion and reserve supreme champion, as well as winning the pairs with Moondust and the Group with the addition of Neptune, my other young bull who has stood second to Northern Light in the bull class. My junior heifer Nichole won her class and was reserve female champion and reserve junior champion to Northern Light.
Whitepool Moondust
What a way to finish the season! There has been a lot of interest in Northern Light, so I have decided to enter him for the Castle Douglas sale in October, along with two other bulls, McCoy and Neptune and a junior heifer. Full details are listed on the Stock For Sale page.

Interbreed honours at Bath and West Show
We were thoroughly delighted with our team at this year’s Bath and West Show as we took the interbreed championship on the Rare Breed’s day with Whitepool Moondust.
In the bull class, her full brother Whitepool Northern Light also won his class and took the reserve overall championship behind moondust, while Whitepool Neptune stood third. Taking the junior heifer championship for us was Whitepool Nichole

This year’s Belted Galloway sale in Castle Douglas was certainly one to remember for many reasons. Firstly, huge congratulations to Helen Hamilton who sold her junior bull by a Whitepool sire for a new breed record of 7500gns. In the female offering, we were the only herd to sell females to more than 2000gns. Our own sale leader was the second prize Whitepool lily, who sold for 2700gns to Mr Stenett, St Andrews, while Whitepool Moonshine took a first in her class and then went on to stand female champion. She sold for 2500gns to Caroline McMillan, Cumnock, Ayrshire, who purchased a heifer from us at our sale last year.
We’d like to wish both purchasers the very best of luck with their heifers.

With no Royal Show this year, we decided to take a trip North up to the Royal Highland Show where the Whitepool show team fared well against some tough competition. We took a second in the cow class with Whitepool Moonbeam, while our senior heifer Whitepool Lily stood fourth and our yearling heifer Whitepool Moondust also stood second in yet another very strong class.

Saturday 31st October saw the reduction sale of some of our finest genetics held at Worcester market. A packed ringside of buyers, many having travelled from across the country found great delight in competing for all ages of stock on offer culminating in a top bid of 3000gns.
Our sale leader was the much admired and stylish red and white maiden heifer Whitepool Living the Dream. Out of a homebred cow by Kinrea Triumph, she was placed 2nd at the Three Counties Show. Taking her home was JC Oliver, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Another maiden heifer Whitepool Leona, a successful show winner throughout the summer levelled at 2750gns to C McMillan, Ockiltree, Ayr. Cows and calves were closely followed with "Barclosh Debbie" suckling a heifer calf peaked at 2750gns to M Williams, Rowlestone, Hereford.
In-calf cows were also in much demand, selling up to 2650gns for the 4 year old cow Whitepool Christobel. She was bought by J Landers, Newton Stewart, Dumfries.
The first heifers to be offered for sale publically by our stock bull Double-O-Seven topped at 2500gns which was particularly impressive as these were just 10 months old.
We would like to thank everyone who purchased stock from the sale and we wish you the very best for the future.
